What this notice is about
We received notification that you recently purchased a clean vehicle and that you elected to transfer the value of the clean vehicle credit to the vehicle dealer.
What you need to do
When you file your federal tax return for the year the clean vehicle was placed in service, you must include the following completed forms to report the transfer election:
- Form 8936, Clean Vehicle Credits

If you DID NOT elect a transfer of the clean vehicle credit, email or call us immediately at the email address or telephone number shown on your notice.
What to do next
- Write down the date on the letter today.
- Look the number up on irs.gov yourself. Don’t trust a link or phone number from anyone else.
- If it says you owe money or proposes changes to your return, take it to a licensed CPA, EA or tax attorney before that date.
