What this notice is about

We received notification that you recently returned your clean vehicle to the dealer. We received the value of the transferred clean vehicle credit from the dealer.

What you need to know

Since we received the value of the transferred clean vehicle credit, we no longer require you to file the following forms with your federal tax return:

  • Form 8936, Clean Vehicle Credits
  • Form 8936, Schedule A, Clean Vehicle Credit Amount PDF

If you DID NOT return the vehicle listed on your notice, email or call us immediately at the email address or telephone number shown on your notice.

What to do next

  • Write down the date on the letter today.
  • Look the number up on irs.gov yourself. Don’t trust a link or phone number from anyone else.
  • If it says you owe money or proposes changes to your return, take it to a licensed CPA, EA or tax attorney before that date.

Not advice. Not a filing. Verify with a licensed professional. Rules change by year and facts.
