What this notice is about
We denied your request for an adoption taxpayer identification number (ATIN).
What you need to know
- We reviewed your Form W-7A, Application for Taxpayer Identification Number for Pending U.S. Adoptions PDF, and you don’t qualify for an ATIN.
- If your situation changes, you may reapply for an ATIN.
You may want to
Call the IRS at 737-800-5511 or 267-941-1000 (for international calls) if you have additional questions.
How long is an ATIN extension?
Extensions are valid for one additional year and may be requested before your assigned ATIN expires. For more information, see Adoption taxpayer identification number.
What to do next
- Write down the date on the letter today.
- Look the number up on irs.gov yourself. Don’t trust a link or phone number from anyone else.
- If it says you owe money or proposes changes to your return, take it to a licensed CPA, EA or tax attorney before that date.
