What this notice is about

The notice informs taxpayers about their potential eligibility for the Saver’s Match, a new Federal government matching contribution of up to 50% of what they contribute to their retirement account for each tax year. The notice was issued to taxpayers who claimed the Saver’s Credit on their 2025 tax return or whose 2025 income was otherwise in the range of Saver’s Match eligibility.

Starting in 2027, the Saver’s Match replaces the Saver’s Credit for contributions made to retirement plans or IRAs.

You may qualify if you:

  • Have earned income that meets certain limits
  • Contribute to a retirement plan or IRA for the tax year
  • Are not claimed as a dependent on another person’s return
  • Are age 18 by the end of the tax year
  • Meet additional Saver’s Match eligibility requirements

You may want to:

  • Start or continue making contributions to your existing retirement plan or IRA.
  • If you don’t have a retirement plan or IRA, open a new IRA. It is easy to find and open a high-quality, low-cost IRA at TrumpIRA.gov.

What to do next

  • Write down the date on the letter today.
  • Look the number up on irs.gov yourself. Don’t trust a link or phone number from anyone else.
  • If it says you owe money or proposes changes to your return, take it to a licensed CPA, EA or tax attorney before that date.
